Why Your ‘Why’ Matters: The Motivation That Keeps Personal Injury Lawyers Fighting

If you’re a personal injury lawyer, why do you fight? Is your ‘why’ just to make as much money as possible? Or is your why much deeper?

I know why I fight.

I don’t fight for profits.

I fight for justice and accountability.

I fight for the client injured in a car wreck who is being taken advantage of by the insurance company and just wants to be treated fairly.

I fight for the woman who suffered a permanent injury because a hotel ignored a known hazard where more than 20 others had already fallen.

I fight for the wife who lost her husband because a hospital’s careless mistake cost him his life and who doesn’t want this to happen to anybody else.

I fight for the patient who sustained life-changing injuries in a fall at a private equity-owned physical therapy clinic where profits come before people and multiple patients are juggled by a single therapist.

I fight for the inmate society disregarded, and who was left powerless and without care as jailers and nurses stood by and did nothing while he died.

Every case is a reminder that our work matters.

Every fight is about holding someone accountable.

Every client deserves to be seen, heard, and fought for.

What is your why? Is it to make as much money as possible? If it is, that motivation will fade over time and you’ll be burned out. But if your why is much deeper than money, you’ll find inspiration and fulfillment in the work you do each day.
