Why You Should Turn Down Cases

lawyer meeting with potential clients

If you’re a personal injury lawyer, don’t make the mistake of trying to take every single case that comes in the door.

You aren’t going to be the best fit for every single client.

Does the client seem like they will be high maintenance and never happy? If you look out for red flags in the initial consultation, you can avoid a lot of pain down the road by declining the case or referring it out.

Is the case outside your area of expertise? If you do take it, make sure you associate another law firm that has the expertise and resources to pursue it.

Are you at max capacity to where you can’t give the case the time and attention it needs? Look to refer it out or associate co-counsel.

But whatever you do, don’t just take every single case that calls you simply because you think it has some value. If you do, you’ll be doing a disservice to your current clients, the new clients, and your team.
