Finding Your Passion as an Attorney

Anybody can get policy limits when the damages clearly exceed the limits.

Those cases are certainly nice to have from a business standpoint. But what really lights me up is doing work that adds value to the case.

Two years ago, I settled a wrongful death case against MARTA for $17 million.

MARTA offered $3 million early before we filed suit. I filed suit because I knew that was the only way to get full value. I took dozens of depositions. MARTA’s offers increased to $5 million, $6 million, $7 million, and eventually topped out at $9.1 million, which was the top offer for about two years of the litigation.

MARTA brought in new lawyers. It filed dispositive motions. We responded. We argued the motions. We won the motions.

After 3 1/2 years of litigation, MARTA agreed to settle for $17 million.

I’m very passionate about maximizing case values for clients. I love the challenge and I love the feeling it gives me when I feel like my work added value, even if it means spending thousands of hours and years working on the case.
