Challenges of Running an Injury Firm in a Major Metro Area

If you think running a personal injury law firm is easy, think again. There are numerous challenges, and they start with getting new clients signed up.

Here are four major challenges to getting personal injury clients in a major metro area like Atlanta for a law firm like mine:

  1. Big advertisers. There are a number of firms that advertise here in Atlanta, but advertisers also seem to be growing in other areas. This weekend I drove up I-85 from Atlanta to Charlotte. I saw tons of PI attorney billboards in SC that I’d never seen before. There used to be a stigma associated with advertising. Not anymore (at least not for most people).
  2. Runners. They are everywhere. It’s almost impossible to get a call from a potential client in a car wreck case who has NOT been solicited yet. Just last week, somebody signed up with us and then terminated us two days later because somebody called and offered them 25%.
  3. Firms that undercut fees. There are many firms that will charge whatever fee just to get the case signed. Some charge 25% or less as a matter of course. Others will negotiate their fee just to get the case signed up.
  4. Google. Trying to get cases online? You have to compete with a ton of other law firms in an incredibly saturated market. Then you have to deal with Google and its ever-changing algorithm.
